“Super You’’ an animated visual world of characters who transform into fantastic “superhero” versions of themselves. Superheroes are not a recent cultural pop phenomenon. The world has had some version of superheroes for centuries. Cultures channeling powerful characters in folklore or performance ceremonies are very common throughout as people look for answers, salvation and communal peace. But in a modern world where “self-care” is a growing part of daily vernacular, I see a shift in what a “superhero” is. The superhero is now more about psyche and individuation; a process of self-awareness, transformation and progression towards a satisfying happier life. Art can ask the viewer to move towards something different. In a playful manner, Super You asks the viewer to perceive a possibility of self - to see their own “superhero” potential.
